Brotherton is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, sitting close to the county boundary with West Yorkshire. It lies by the low-lying floodplain of the River Aire and alongside the historic Aire and Calder Navigation, with the former canal and local roads linking it to nearby settlements such as Knottingley and Ferrybridge.
Traditionally an agricultural community, Brotherton grew around river and canal transport and today is largely a residential and commuter village with a small local centre of community life. The surrounding landscape of arable fields and river meadows, together with surviving parish‑scale historic features, gives it a distinctly rural character despite easy access to larger market towns and industrial areas nearby.
