Escrick is a compact village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, a little south of York and close to the floodplain of the River Ouse. It sits between the city and market towns to the south, and its landscape is defined by rolling agricultural land and the mature parkland of the local country estate, Escrick Park, which gives the village much of its historic character and pleasant walking routes.
Historically an estate and farming settlement, Escrick has retained a strong village community while becoming a popular commuter base for people working in York and nearby towns. The social life centres on traditional village amenities, community events and countryside pursuits rather than heavy industry, and conservation and housing-sensitive development have helped preserve the village’s historic feel even as it has slowly expanded in recent decades.
