Riccall is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, sitting on the east bank of the River Ouse a few miles south of Selby and within easy reach of York. It lies by the Selby Canal and the A19, with flat riverside countryside that makes it popular for walking, cycling and simple waterside leisure.
The village has long roots and strong local identity - there are Viking and medieval associations and it was used as an assembly point by King Harold’s army before the 1066 march to Stamford Bridge. Today Riccall is largely a mix of agriculture and commuter living with a historic parish church, active community groups and small local businesses; the 20th‑century Selby coalfield nearby also helped shape the area’s economy and social history.
