Filey is a small coastal town and parish on the North Yorkshire coast of England, set around a long sandy beach known as Filey Bay and overlooked by the rocky headland of Filey Brigg. The bay and Brigg are popular for fossil hunting, birdwatching and coastal walks, and the town’s promenade and traditional seafront give it a gently old-fashioned holiday atmosphere.
Historically it grew from a fishing community into a Victorian seaside resort after the railway arrived, and today the local economy leans heavily on tourism, hospitality and some small-scale fishing, with surrounding farmland forming part of the parish. There remains an active local scene with seasonal events and a strong focus on coastal conservation, with easy links to nearby Scarborough and Bridlington for wider services.
