Gristhorpe is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, sitting on the low coastal plain between Filey and Scarborough. The setting blends arable farmland with the nearby chalk cliffs and the fringes of the North York Moors, giving a quietly scenic feel close to the North Sea; much of the local economy is agricultural, with many residents commuting into the larger resorts and towns nearby.
The area is notable for an important archaeological discovery – the Bronze Age burial known as Gristhorpe Man, found on nearby moorland and now cared for in the Rotunda Museum in Scarborough – which adds a strong historic dimension to an otherwise modest, close‑knit rural community of traditional cottages and lanes.
