Kirkbymoorside is a small market town in Ryedale, on the western edge of the North York Moors in North Yorkshire, England, roughly 20 miles north of York. It has a compact historic centre of stone-built houses, a traditional high street and a history as a local trading hub dating back to medieval times.
Today the local economy mixes agriculture, independent shops and tourism - many visitors use Kirkbymoorside as a gateway for walking and cycling into the North York Moors National Park and to nearby towns such as Pickering and Helmsley. Community life is lively for a town its size, with regular markets, an annual agricultural show and active clubs that give it a friendly, village-like feel.
