Nawton is a small village in North Yorkshire set on the western fringe of the North York Moors, a short drive from the market towns of Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley. The village has the compact feel of a traditional Yorkshire settlement - stone cottages and farmland - and a surprising bit of wartime history nearby in the form of the former airfield, RAF Nawton, which played a role in training and local defence during the Second World War.
Today Nawton is largely sustained by agriculture and rural tourism, benefiting from walkers, cyclists and visitors heading to the moors and nearby historic houses such as Castle Howard. Social life centres on village amenities like the pub, school and community groups, giving it a close-knit, community-minded atmosphere while remaining a convenient base for exploring the surrounding countryside.
