Sherburn-in-Elmet is a small town in the Selby district of North Yorkshire, England, sitting roughly between York and Leeds. Its name preserves a link to the old Celtic kingdom of Elmet, and the area has medieval roots with a traditional parish church and scattered archaeological finds that hint at a long local history.
Historically the locality combined agriculture with nearby coal mining - there is the neighbouring community of Sherburn Colliery - but today it functions largely as a commuter and light‑industry centre with local shops, schools and active community and sports clubs. Good road and rail access to larger urban centres makes it a convenient base for people working in the surrounding cities while still retaining a village feel and several community events through the year.
