Heslerton is a small rural parish in North Yorkshire lying on the low-lying coastal plain close to the North Sea, roughly between Scarborough and Filey. It comprises the twin settlements of East Heslerton and West Heslerton, set among arable fields and the rolling approaches to the Yorkshire Wolds, with modest village amenities and good road links to nearby market towns.
The parish is best known for the large Anglo‑Saxon cemetery and associated settlement uncovered at West Heslerton, one of the biggest such sites excavated in Britain, which has shed important light on early medieval life in the region and produced finds now in museum collections. Today Heslerton remains largely agricultural in economy, with a quiet, community‑centred social life focused on local churches, village events and the occasional visitor drawn by the nearby coastline.
