Sutton-on-the-Forest sits a few miles north of York and close to Easingwold in North Yorkshire. The village occupies gentle arable and wooded countryside on the fringe of the old Forest of Galtres, and its roots run back to the medieval period, reflected in a mix of stone cottages, estate land and the occasional larger country house.
Today it has a quietly rural, community-focused character: farming still shapes the local economy but many people commute to York, and village life centres on the church, village hall and pub, with seasonal events and active stewardship of woodlands and hedgerows preserving its attractive landscape setting.
