Strensall is a small village on the northern edge of York in England, about seven miles from the city centre. It retains a rural village feel with a high street, a primary school and local pubs, but many residents commute into York, so it combines traditional village life with suburban convenience.
The village is best known for Strensall Common, an extensive area of lowland heath and wood pasture designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and much used for walking and wildlife watching. A long military presence at Strensall Camp, a medieval parish church of St Mary the Virgin and a scattering of historic buildings give the place a clear sense of history, while sports clubs, seasonal events and small local businesses sustain a close-knit community atmosphere.
