Thornthwaite with Padside is a small, dispersed civil parish in North Yorkshire, lying within the rolling moors and river valleys of Nidderdale. The landscape is typified by drystone walls, scattered farms and a handful of stone-built homes and barns, with the parish enjoying easy access to the River Nidd and the pretty market town of Pateley Bridge a short drive away.
Historically the area has been shaped by upland farming and, like much of Nidderdale, a history of small-scale mining and quarrying; today agriculture remains important but walking, cycling and quiet tourism are increasingly significant to the local economy. Administratively the parish sits within the Harrogate district and retains a strong rural community feel, with local events and networks centred on village halls, farms and nearby parish amenities.
