Wharram is a small rural parish tucked into the rolling chalk of the Yorkshire Wolds in North Yorkshire. It includes the tiny inhabited settlement of Wharram le Street and the well‑known deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy, set among dry valleys and patchwork arable and pasture that typify the Wolds landscape.
Wharram is best known for the extensive 20th‑century archaeological excavations at Wharram Percy, which revealed house plans, field systems and a ruined church and have shed important light on medieval village life and later depopulation as land use shifted towards sheep and pasture. Today the parish remains largely agricultural, quietly popular with walkers and history enthusiasts and valued for its strong local heritage.
