The twin villages of Ellington and Linton sit in rural Northumberland, a short distance inland from the North Sea. The surrounding landscape is a patchwork of arable fields, grazing land and reclaimed post‑industrial sites, with easy access to the sands and wildlife of Druridge Bay and the nearby coastal town of Amble.
Historically the area was shaped by coal mining - Ellington's colliery was a major local employer until its closure in the early 2000s - and that industrial heritage still influences the community, from memorials to converted land. Today the settlements are largely residential with a close‑knit, village feel; many people commute to larger centres such as Newcastle, while local clubs, a village hall and outdoor pursuits like birdwatching and walking remain important to social life.
