Awsworth is a small village in the borough of Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire, England, lying on the edge of the Erewash Valley close to the Derbyshire border. It expanded in the 19th century with the arrival of coal mining and railway lines and today feels largely residential, within easy reach of Nottingham and neighbouring centres such as Kimberley and Ilkeston.
The area’s industrial past is still visible - most notably the striking ironwork of Bennerley Viaduct, a preserved Victorian structure linking the valley and now used by walkers - while remnants of old railway and mining infrastructure dot the locality. Contemporary Awsworth has a quiet village atmosphere with local amenities, a village hall and primary school, and a community that largely commutes to nearby towns and cities for work.
