Eastwood is a small former mining town in the borough of Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire, England, lying roughly seven miles north‑west of Nottingham. It grew up as a framework‑knitting and coal‑mining community, and the townscape of Victorian terraces and reclaimed pit sites still hints at that industrial past.
Eastwood is best known as the birthplace of D. H. Lawrence, and it hosts the D. H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum and a local heritage trail celebrating his links with the area; many of his novels draw on the town’s mining community. Since the decline of the pits it has become largely residential with some light industry and good commuter links to Nottingham, while local events and museums keep its literary and industrial heritage alive.
