Shiplake is a pretty Thames-side village in South Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England, set on the north bank of the River Thames close to Henley-on-Thames. The parish includes hamlets such as Lower Shiplake and Shiplake Row, and features Shiplake Lock and riverside paths that make it popular with walkers and river users; the local station on the Henley branch gives easy rail access via Twyford to the wider commuter network.
The village has medieval roots – the parish church of St Peter's Church has early origins – and today combines a strong community life (village school, clubs and pubs) with an economically mixed, largely commuter population. Nearby institutions such as Shiplake College, the attraction of the Thames, and proximity to events in Henley-on-Thames (notably rowing) all shape local culture, while conservation areas and attractive countryside on the edge of the Chiltern Hills keep it a sought-after spot for families and walkers.
