Sonning is a compact riverside village in the borough of Wokingham, in Berkshire, lying just east of Reading on the banks of the River Thames. It retains a strong historic character with a medieval parish church, attractive Georgian and Victorian houses and the picturesque Sonning Bridge linking the village to the hamlet of Sonning Eye across the river.
Despite its village feel, Sonning has a lively cultural life - most notably the converted mill theatre, the Mill at Sonning, which draws audiences to riverside performances - and it functions as a well‑heeled commuter community for nearby towns and London. The Thames brings leisure boating, riverside pubs and walking routes, while local clubs and village events keep a strong social atmosphere.
