Sonning Common is a large village and civil parish in South Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, in England, sitting on the lower slopes of the Chiltern Hills just north of Reading and within easy reach of Henley-on-Thames. The village grew up around its original common and is characterised by mixed farmland, beech woodland and chalk downland typical of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with good walking routes and countryside views towards the River Thames valley.
Historically a small agricultural settlement, Sonning Common expanded in the 20th century and today functions largely as a commuter and local-service community, with a parade of shops, pubs, schools and active community groups. It retains a strong village feel, with allotments, sports clubs and volunteer organisations shaping social life, while many residents commute to nearby towns and Reading for work, taking advantage of regional road and rail links.
