Bretton is a civil parish on the north‑west fringe of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, England, developed largely during the post‑war expansion of the city. The area is made up of residential estates often described as North Bretton and South Bretton, with plenty of green space, lakes and woodland - notably Bretton Park - and a local shopping and community hub around the Bretton Centre.
Mostly a residential suburb, Bretton has a mix of schools, sports clubs and community groups, with many people commuting into Peterborough for work while small retail and light industrial units serve the local economy. Its origins on former farmland and subsequent new‑town style planning give it a distinctive mid‑20th‑century character, and an active local life with events and volunteer organisations.
