Castor is a small village and civil parish just to the west of Peterborough, sitting on the floodplain of the River Nene and framed by farmland and pockets of remnant woodland. The nearby Castor Hanglands is a designated nature reserve and SSSI, prized for its ancient grassland and wildlife, while the village itself feels quietly rural despite being within easy commuting distance of the city.
The village is notable for its long history: Roman masonry and carved stones are visible in the fabric of St Kyneburgha's Church and there are other archaeological traces of a Roman settlement in the area, giving the place a layered historic character. Today Castor combines a tightâknit community spirit with agriculture and conservation interests, and a handful of traditional buildings that reflect its past.
