Eye is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Peterborough in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. Its name comes from Old English ēg, meaning “island”, a nod to its position on slightly higher ground at the edge of the Fenlands and to a history that stretches back into the medieval period.
Traditionally agricultural, Eye retains a rural character of hedged lanes and open fields while functioning today partly as a commuter settlement for Peterborough; small local businesses, light industry nearby and farming all play a role in the local economy. The village centres on a parish church and community facilities and sustains a closely knit social life with occasional local events reflecting long‑standing community ties.
