Borough Fen is a small, low-lying rural parish within the unitary authority of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, set in the characteristic Fenlands. The landscape is dominated by flat, reclaimed agricultural land, with drainage ditches and pumping infrastructure on rich peat and silt soils, so arable farming and market gardening have long been the economic mainstays while the nearby city provides services and commuting options.
Historically the fen was progressively drained from medieval times and more intensively in the 17th–18th centuries, and that legacy of enclosure, water management and scattered farmsteads still shapes the parish. Socially it is a small, dispersed community with strong rural traditions; the quiet lanes and wetland margins also attract walkers and birdwatchers, giving the area a modest recreational as well as agricultural value.
