Copnor is a mainly residential ward on the eastern side of Portsea Island within the city of Portsmouth, a short drive or bus ride from the city centre. The area is dominated by terraces and semi‑detached houses from late Victorian and interwar expansion, with local parades of shops along Copnor Road and small parks and green spaces scattered through the neighbourhood.
Historically it grew to house workers serving the nearby naval and maritime industries, and like much of the city it saw bombing and post‑war rebuilding which shaped its mixed housing stock. Today Copnor has a strong local community feel, a mix of private and social housing, modest retail amenities and decent transport links into central Portsmouth, making it a practical, down‑to‑earth part of the city rather than a tourist destination.
