Cound is a small, rural parish in Shropshire, set in the scenic Severn valley a few miles south of Shrewsbury. The settlement clusters beside the River Severn and the winding Cound Brook, with traditional stone cottages, country lanes and riverside meadows shaping a distinctly pastoral feel; the landscape combines floodplain and rolling agricultural land and has long attracted walkers and paddlers.
The area has a strong sense of history and place, with manor houses and a number of historic buildings such as Cound Hall, traces of former mills and quarries, and a village social life still rooted in farming and local events. Economically it is largely residential and agricultural today, while conservation, heritage and low‑key tourism help sustain the community.
