Nunney is a small village and civil parish in rural Somerset, set on the banks of the River Frome a few miles east of Frome and within sight of the Mendip Hills. It’s best known for the atmospheric ruins of a 14th-century moat‑surrounded castle and a compact core of stone cottages and narrow lanes that make it popular with walkers and photographers.
The local economy is largely agricultural with some residents commuting to nearby towns such as Bath and Frome, while visitors drawn by the castle and historic buildings add to the village’s trade. A strong sense of community survives in the parish church, the village pub and local groups, and the layout and older buildings still hint at the area’s historic links with the Somerset cloth and wool trade.
