Badminton is a small, largely rural village and civil parish in South Gloucestershire, on the southern edge of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. It is dominated by the great estate centred on Badminton House, a historic country house with extensive parkland and 18th‑century landscaping, and the village retains a quiet, estate‑village character surrounded by farmland and woods.
Despite its modest size the area punches above its weight culturally and economically: the estate hosts shooting, farming and visitor activities, and each spring the grounds stage the internationally famed Badminton Horse Trials, an event first held after the Second World War, while the sport of badminton itself is said to have been popularised at the house in the 19th century. The community remains closely tied to the estate, with tourism and equestrian interests supplementing traditional agriculture.
