Sholing is a residential ward on the eastern edge of Southampton in Hampshire, characterised by a mix of Victorian and inter‑war housing, local parades of shops and pockets of green space. It sits close to neighbouring suburbs such as Bitterne and Woolston, and has straightforward bus and road links into the city and out to the surrounding towns.
Once a village absorbed by the city’s 19th–20th century expansion, Sholing grew with Southampton’s maritime and engineering trades and today has a largely residential character with small industrial estates, active community groups and amateur sports clubs. Locally it’s known more for its strong community feel and everyday amenities than as a tourist draw, making it a practical, down‑to‑earth part of the city.
