Leigh-on-Sea is a compact coastal town and historic parish on the north side of the Thames Estuary, forming part of Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England. Its shoreline of mudflats, creeks and small harbours gives the place a strong maritime character: the Old Leigh fishing quarter retains cobbled streets, working boatyards and seafood stalls, and nearby Two Tree Island and the estuary are valued for birdlife and watersports.
Long a fishing village before 19th‑century rail links made it a commuter suburb for London, Leigh-on-Sea now balances independent shops, cafés and a lively arts scene with its seafaring traditions; local festivals, sailing and rowing clubs and a reputation for fresh seafood keep a strong community feel alongside more affluent residential areas.
