Leek is a compact market town set on the western edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands in Staffordshire, close to the fringes of the Peak District. Its position amid undulating farmland and gritstone outcrops gives easy access to walking and reservoirs such as Tittesworth Reservoir and the dramatic Roaches, while the wooded Churnet Valley lies a short drive away.
Historically a market and textile centre, the town still shows a strong Victorian and Georgian character in its streets and market square, and supports a lively independent scene of shops, galleries and cafes. Local industry has included notable artisan pottery and heritage crafts; cultural life is buoyed by regular markets, festivals and an active community interest in conserving the town’s historic fabric while welcoming visitors and outdoor enthusiasts.
