Betchworth is a small village and civil parish in the borough of Mole Valley in Surrey, England, nestling in the valley of the River Mole at the foot of the North Downs. The setting is very much part of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with steep chalk escarpments, scenic walking routes and close neighbours such as Box Hill and Dorking that make it popular with walkers and day visitors.
Historically the village grew around medieval settlement and quarrying: the ruins of Betchworth Castle and the scars of ragstone quarries and limeworks recall its industrial past, some sites now reclaimed by nature and used as reserves. Today it has a small, active community with conservation interests, village amenities and a quiet, rural character that mixes historic buildings and countryside close to larger market towns.
