Droylsden is a town in the metropolitan borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester, England, lying a few miles east of Manchester. It sits by the River Medlock and along the route of the Ashton Canal, so the town combines low-lying urban streets with remnants of its canal and mill-side landscape.
Historically a cotton and textile centre, Droylsden still shows its industrial heritage in old mill buildings and terraced housing, while functioning today largely as a commuter town with local retail, light industry and community organisations such as its football club. The area has seen pockets of regeneration alongside the social and economic challenges typical of former industrial suburbs, giving it a strong local identity and a sense of ongoing change.
