Crofton is a village and civil parish in the City of Wakefield district of West Yorkshire, lying a few miles east of Wakefield and close to Pontefract. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is a modestly sized community of a few thousand people with a mix of 19th‑ and 20th‑century housing and some surrounding farmland.
The village has a strong mining heritage - Crofton Colliery was a major local employer - but today it functions largely as a residential and commuter settlement for Wakefield, Leeds and neighbouring towns. Local life centres on community groups, a primary school, pubs and sports clubs, and the location offers easy access to green belt countryside and walks with views over the Calder valley.
