Coughton is a small, largely rural parish in the Stratford-on-Avon district of Warwickshire, set in rolling countryside a few miles south of Alcester and not far from Stratford-upon-Avon. The landscape around the village is typical of the area - mixed arable fields, hedgerows and river valleys such as the nearby River Arrow - which gives it a quiet, agricultural character with scattered houses and farmsteads rather than a dense village centre.
Culturally and historically the parish is best known for Coughton Court, the Tudor manor house owned by the Throckmorton family and now run by the National Trust; its recusant Catholic history and links to the Gunpowder Plot attract interest and visitors. Local life is shaped by farming and by heritage tourism, with the house, gardens and occasional events providing the main public face of a community that otherwise remains small and closely tied to the surrounding countryside.
