The village and civil parish of Chieveley lies in West Berkshire, a few miles north of Newbury, where the rolling chalk of the North Wessex Downs transitions into mixed farmland. Its location close to the M4 and A34 junctions makes it something of a crossroads between the Thames Valley and the downs, while still feeling distinctly rural.
Despite good road links and a commuter presence, Chieveley keeps a strong countryside character: farmed fields, pockets of woodland and scattered hamlets such as Curridge, with local life centred on a village hall, parish activities and a small historic church. The wider area has long downland and agricultural traditions and is linked culturally and economically to neighbouring horse-country around Lambourn, as well as to outdoor recreation on the chalk hills.
