Selsey is a small coastal town and civil parish at the tip of the Manhood Peninsula in the district of Chichester, West Sussex, jutting out into the English Channel. Its most famous landmark is Selsey Bill, a low headland that has long been a navigation point, and the surrounding coastline and nearby Chichester Harbour make the area popular for birdwatching, sailing and other marine recreation.
Traditionally a fishing and maritime community, Selsey now combines that heritage with tourism, caravan parks and small-scale seafood and craft businesses; the town also remembers an older history as the site of the Saxon bishopric before the see moved to Chichester. The settlement is notable for its exposed, changeable coastal weather, ongoing concerns about erosion and flood defences, and a strong local identity centred on sea-related events and conservation of the shoreline.
