Dunnerdale-with-Seathwaite is a small, sparsely populated civil parish in Westmorland and Furness on the western side of the Lake District National Park, occupying the narrow valley of the Duddon Valley and its tributary streams. Its landscape of steep fells, moor and traditional dry‑stone walls gives a remote, upland character; the local economy is largely sheep farming and estate management with a modest amount of tourism from walkers and cyclists.
Culturally the area sits within the Lakeland literary tradition - William Wordsworth’s sonnets to the Duddon celebrate the valley - and retains small hamlets and historic farmsteads with a strong sense of community. Services are limited, so residents rely on nearby villages and market towns, while low‑key tourism, holiday cottages and farm diversification help balance conservation with a fragile rural economy.
