Coniston is a village and small parish in Westmorland and Furness, England, tucked at the southern end of Coniston Water in the Lake District National Park. It’s a popular base for walkers heading up the Old Man of Coniston and for boating on the lake, and the arts and social history of the area are embodied by Brantwood, John Ruskin’s former home on the shore.

Historically the settlement grew around mining and quarrying - the Coniston Coppermines still mark that industrial past - and the lake gained 20th‑century fame for high‑speed trials. Today Coniston’s economy is largely driven by tourism and outdoor recreation, with cafés, craft shops, guiding services and a strong local community that balances visitors with everyday village life.
