The ward covers the adjacent villages of Urchfont and Bishops Cannings in east Wiltshire, England, a few miles east of the market town of Devizes and close to the western edge of Salisbury Plain. It sits among rolling chalk downland typical of the county and enjoys easy access to rural lanes and footpaths, with the nearby Kennet and Avon Canal and the designated landscapes of the North Wessex Downs adding recreational appeal.
Both villages have long histories visible in medieval churches and traditional cottages, and village halls and pubs act as local social hubs. The local economy remains rooted in agriculture, though many residents commute to nearby towns, producing a mix of farming life and commuter households; walking, heritage interests and community events are important to the area’s character.
