Laverstock is an electoral ward on the eastern edge of Salisbury, where the suburban fringe meets the chalk downland. The ward follows the valley of the River Bourne and sits close to the archaeological heights of Old Sarum, with easy road access via the A36 into the city; this gives a mix of leafy village streets, newer housing estates and open countryside at the doorstep of Salisbury Plain.
Historically the area has deep roots thanks to nearby ancient and medieval remains at Old Sarum, while today it functions largely as a commuter and local service community for Salisbury. Local life revolves around schools, village halls and small shops, with a modest local economy of small businesses and trades; residents often highlight the blend of rural character, easy access to city amenities and plentiful walking country as the ward’s strong points.
