Drumoak in Aberdeenshire sits on the north bank of the River Dee in Royal Deeside, a short drive west of Aberdeen and not far from Banchory. The village occupies a rural, wooded stretch of the Dee with mixed farmland and hills close by; the old Deeside railway alignment is now used as the popular Deeside Way for walking and cycling, and the river draws anglers and walkers alike.
Historically the locality is marked by impressive country houses and castles - notably Drum Castle and Crathes Castle nearby - and a small but active parish community. Today Drumoak combines commuter households with traditional farming and forestry, while tourism linked to fishing, castles and outdoor recreation makes a steady economic and social contribution.
