Nairn is a compact seaside town on the edge of the Moray Firth in the Highland council area of Scotland, lying around 16 miles east of Inverness. It’s best known for a long sweep of golden sands and a low, breezy promenade where you can often spot bottlenose dolphins in the firth; the modest River Nairn meets the sea here and the views along the coast are a big part of the town’s appeal.
Historically a market and fishing settlement with roots back into Pictish and medieval times, Nairn now has an economy centred on tourism, local services and golf - the town’s links, including Nairn Golf Club, attract players from across the UK. It retains a lively community feel with local events, small shops and a mix of families, retirees and commuters who travel to Inverness, giving it a relaxed, well-used charm rather than a purpose-built resort atmosphere.
