Rosemarkie sits on the southern shore of the Moray Firth on the Black Isle, in the Highland area of Scotland. The village is famed for its long sandy beach and the wooded gorge called the Fairy Glen, and it’s a popular spot for coastal walks and wildlife-watching - bottlenose dolphins are regularly seen from nearby Chanonry Point.
Locally there’s a strong community feel with tourism, small-scale agriculture and crafts forming much of the economy, and many people commuting to Inverness. Historically and culturally the village punches above its weight: the Groam House Museum houses an important collection of Pictish carved stones and draws anyone interested in the area’s early medieval past.
