The ward around Culloden is best known for the nearby Culloden Battlefield on the low moor where the 1746 Jacobite rising met its end; the National Trust visitor centre and memorial interpret the site, and Bronze Age sites such as the Clava Cairns are close by. Lying just east of Inverness in the wider Highland council area, the landscape mixes peat moor, farmland and newer housing, making it both a place of pilgrimage for history and a commuter area for the city.
Ardersier is a small coastal village on the Moray Firth, adjacent to the 18th‑century Fort George which remains an active garrison and visitor attraction; the village has a harbour, fishing roots and a quiet community feel. The local economy leans on a mix of tourism, military presence and commuting to Inverness, with coastal views and wildlife - dolphins in the firth are a frequent draw - complementing the historic landscape.
