Ardersier is a small coastal village in the Highland council area on the shores of the Moray Firth, a few miles east‑northeast of Inverness. It grew from fishing and crofting roots and was shaped in the 18th century by the nearby garrison at Fort George, whose imposing ramparts are a local landmark and an attraction for visitors. The coastline around the village is good for wildlife watching, with seabirds and occasional dolphins in the firth.
Today Ardersier combines a quiet village feel with the realities of being within easy commuting distance of Inverness, so local life mixes tourism, small‑scale local services and residents who work in the city or in nearby maritime and defence sectors. Community activities, a primary school and a handful of independent shops and cafés give it a sociable, close‑knit character while remaining very much a Highland coastal settlement.
