Eilean na Cille is one of the small, often low‑lying islets off the coast of Na h-Eileanan Siar in the Outer Hebrides. Its name, "island of the church" in Gaelic, hints at a long human presence: like many similarly named skerries it can contain traces of an early chapel or burial ground, and its machair and rocky shores are important for seabirds and seals.
Historically tied to nearby crofting communities, the island has been used for summer grazing, peaty fuel gathering and occasional burials, and carries local cultural weight in oral traditions and place‑names. Today it is typically uninhabited, of interest to archaeologists and naturalists, and reflective of the Gaelic‑speaking, maritime crofting society of the wider islands.
