Eilean a' Ghiorr is a small, low-lying isle off the coast of Na h-Eileanan Siar in the Outer Hebrides. Typically uninhabited, it has the windswept machair and rocky shoreline familiar from the archipelago and is valued for seabird colonies and occasional seal haul-outs; the island’s character changes with the tides and the light, which is part of its quiet appeal.
Like many Hebridean isles, its name and setting echo the Norse‑Gaelic past and a long connection with crofting communities: surrounding waters are still used for fishing and traditional sea‑gathering, while visitors come for birdwatching, walking and a sense of solitude. Access is by boat only and visitors are asked to respect local wildlife and crofting interests when ashore.
