The area centred on Nantyglo sits in the upland bowl of the South Wales Valleys within Blaenau Gwent, Wales. Perched beneath steep valley slopes and looking towards the moorland above, it still bears visible reminders of a 19th‑century industrial heyday - notably the remains of historic ironworks and the distinctive round towers that recall the village’s role in iron production.
Like much of the Valleys it experienced industrial decline in the 20th century and today balances residential life with ongoing regeneration: community projects, sporting clubs and small businesses are important to local life, while many residents commute to nearby towns for work. The place has a strong local identity and a landscape shaped by its mining and ironworking past, with pleasant rural walks close by.
