Pontllanfraith is a village and parish in the county borough of Caerphilly, situated in the South Wales Valleys of Wales, close to the larger town of Blackwood. It expanded during the 19th and early 20th centuries with the coal and iron industries, and hints of that industrial past remain in the street pattern and former pit sites around the area.
Today it is largely residential, with local shops, leisure facilities and active community and sports clubs, while many people commute to nearby centres such as Cardiff and Newport. Recent regeneration and community projects have focused on green spaces and preserving local heritage, giving Pontllanfraith a resilient, close‑knit character within a valley landscape.
