Ynysddu is a small village in the borough of Caerphilly, in south Wales, lying in the fold of the Sirhowy Valley. The name translates from Welsh as "black island" and the settlement grew up in the 19th century around the coal and iron industries that once dominated the area, leaving a clear industrial heritage in the local landscape.
Today Ynysddu is largely a residential and commuter community with a strong local identity - community halls, sports clubs and annual events reflect that continuity. It’s appreciated for easy access to countryside walks and woodlands, while being a short drive from regional attractions such as Caerphilly Castle and larger urban centres like Newport, so residents combine rural surroundings with practical links to jobs and services.
